Law of Political Responsibilities : ウィキペディア英語版 | Law of Political Responsibilities The Law of Political Responsibilities (''Ley de Responsabilidades Políticas'') was a law issued by the Francoist dictatorship on 13 February 1939〔''Boletín Oficial del Estado nº 44, de 13 de febrero de 1939,'' (''Gazeta histórica''. Referencia: 1939/01451, páginas TIFF. )〕 two months before the end of the Spanish Civil War. The Law targeted all loyalist supporters of the Second Spanish Republic〔Beevor, Antony. ''The Battle for Spain. The Spanish Civil War 1936-1939.'' Penguin Books. 2006. London. pp.385-386〕 and penalized membership in the Popular Front of the defeated republic.〔 The Law of Political Responsibilities, reformed in 1942 and in force until 1966,〔(Cuadernos de Historia Nº 39 - Universidad de Chile )〕 was promulgated in order to give a legal cover to the bloody repression carried out during the dismantlement of the Spanish republican institutions, as well as to penalise those who had remained loyal to the legally established government at the time of the July 1936 military rebellion against the Spanish Republic.〔(La Ley de Responsabilidades Políticas, un arma más de represión durante el franquismo )〕 It was a central piece of the Francoist repression in the postwar era and an estimated half a million people were prosecuted. ==History==
